Strategic Problems w/ Demo

To start, I'd like to point out that I have played both BOA and ACW, so I'm familiar with the game mechanics. I just have a problem with how they're implemented --- or not. First, the Jena scenario starts in October, and by mid November, the weather is "Harsh / Frozen / Blizzard" every turn until th...

Did you have Bragg in charge? Sounds like what happened to him in real life. :siffle: Have you ever seen Fort Pickens? It was a tough nut to crack, apparently, as it never fell to the CSA. Yah, I have. And Ft. Pulaski, too --- another pre-war fort designed to almost identical specs. I suggest you c...

Moltke Always expect hvy casualties if you assault a fort right away! Did you siege the forts at all? If you're not on assault posture, you can start a siege that in time may breach the forts walls making future assaults a little easier. Also, why not bring along some siege guns! Just start another...

To conclude: the CSA is designed fine, and the 'leave us alone' strategy is not realistic. He must attacks, as historically if he want to have a chance to win. Au contraire, mes ami . Union Garrisons Magically Appear

Late January, 1864: As the CSA, I still control Fort Jackson LA, Fort Marion FL, and Fort Clinch FL --- yet Union units labelled as "Garrison Troops" have magically appeared at all three locations. But since I have them occupied by Confederate troops, these Union garrisons are all parked outside, wi...

Just finished the 1861 Campaign as CSA: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g31/elGato8/End.jpg Or, perhaps a better turn of phrase would be, it finished itself. Made it to Jan 1864, and it ended in a stalemate. CSA morale was 148 (max. 175), and USA was 55 (min. 60). (I blame it on McClellan winning ...

Unless, like me, you happen to want to keep yr chain of command. Seniority be damned --- if a general is assigned command of a Corps (or Army, or Division, for that matter) he should remain in command until I remove him. Otherwise, every time two organizations end up in the same place at the same ti...

General in Command of Both Div and Corps

Should this happen? I had a one-star (Cleburne) division commander promoted to two-star, and his new seniority (21) put him above his corps commander (Bonham - 53). Cleburne automatically assumed command of the Corps, while retaining his division. I've seen officers be in simultaneous command of a B...

Yah, tell me about it.

I've had Braxton Bragg in the Far West for most of the game (it's now Winter 1863), and he's still only a one-star. Kind of odd, in that IRL his date of rank for Major General is Sept 1861 (so why does he start as a Brigadier?), and he made 3-star by Apr '62.

Right now we all basically buy enough replacements to refill our starting armies and then we basically ignore the pools until a half year or so goes by and we need to buy a few more. Let the currently destroyed regiments stick around instead and you’ll see lots of under strength regiments going int...

Liverpool Rams in North Carolina

Sept 1863: Message arrives "The Two Liverpool Rams --- CSS Scorpion and CSS Wyvern are Under Construction in Great Britain" or some such. I check the GB box: Nope, not there. Avoid major engagements, let the Federal troops break themselves upon my e...

I agree that the weather must change and that is it overdone (Snow in Mobile in May is a bit over the top). But that is not what I understood us to be talking about. Those battles were not the "let's walk in here and see what happens" fiascoes wargame players tend to create. When you enter enemy-held territory and launch an ill-advised attack, you may want to run away, but your adversary may not be so willing to let you, particularly when most of your troops are only as fast as shoe leather will allow them to be. Point being, after most large ACW battles, the "winner" ...

She's been locked in place (Richmond, VA) since arrival, becomes un-locked Late Feb, 1863. A bit OT: notice that a force carelessly left out of supply will eventually dissolve to the last man. But a real army, unless besieged or surrounded a la Vicksburg, doesn't remain in situ and starve to death. This is where a 'TacAI', if one existed, would awaken and march the force back into a supp...

I think the actual confederate losses are OK, assuming the Union broke before reaching melee... but since the union took so many casualties and kept advancing, by the sheer force of inertia it should have reached the trenches and then losses in the 2-3000 for the rebs would make more sense...
