Re: new game

most of the people expect Field of Glory Medievel but i am stilll hoping for something with shorter time frame to cover and more historical accurancy and density like Wars of Napoleon II ( with new engine) Same, I have a hunger for some decent Napoleonic strategy. Though I would be equally interest...

Re: French forces in Russia 1805 - glitch or is there a reason?

Yes the makeup sounds about right. It was approx 3,000 men and 30-40 artillery. The army I had at st Petersburg disposed of them. Sweden are also at war with France so I suppose they could have come over the border from Sweden. I might send some cavalry on a scouting trip around Sweden to see what's...

Re: French forces in Russia 1805 - glitch or is there a reason?

It just happened again, in December 1805, a 200 power French stack just appeared in St Petersburg.
No idea where it could have come from, I had the Baltic fleet in the sea province next to the area and saw no transports.

How did France manage to get a unit directly to my capital with no warning?

Re: French forces in Russia 1805 - glitch or is there a reason?

The French do get an option to sway both the Ottomans and Persians though not completely. In my experience, the Ottomans tend to be quite if left to the AI. However, Russia actually needs a war with the Ottomans, not to conquer land (unfortunately there is no (what if) peace event that for example ...

Re: French forces in Russia 1805 - glitch or is there a reason?

It's good to hear what people's favourites are, gives me ideas on which one I should try next! You just reminded me that I picked up ROP during the recent Steam sale but have yet to try it. I think I've got over the initial learning curve (cliff? :-) ) with ageod games now so I have lots of interest...

Re: French forces in Russia 1805 - glitch or is there a reason?

Thanks for the reply, I guess the weird behaviour of the French stacks is a sort of bug then or a bizarre AI behaviour. I'm on a bit of an ageod binge at the moment working out what games I like, I may abandon this one in favour of Pride of Nations, To End All Wars & Wars of Succession as they a...

French forces in Russia 1805 - glitch or is there a reason?

I started the longest grand campaign as Russia as I wanted to see how the early game pans out in terms of alliances forming. From what I have seen, the relations seem to be event driven to a significant extent, I've just been dragged into the British coalition by an event without me having any say i...

Re: Text of the events disappeared

Thanks Durk, I've got the memory usage set to the max option (75% of physical memory) so I can't do much more than that. I still have a sneaking suspicion that this is something to do with the Steam version of the game as I've noticed that when in military mode, the icons for rail pool and riverine ...

Re: Text of the events disappeared

It doesn't look like this was ever solved, but I have this exact problem, I have what looks like a text file reference in place of the actual text, for some events and also for text relating to leaders. See attached screenshot. Steam version of the game. Have tried running the exe as administrator a...

Re: A question about the AI

I'm enjoying Pride of Nations at the moment and would love a similar grand strategy in the Napoleonic era. Based on feedback about the AI I'm debating whether I'd be better off just going with Wars of Succession or possibly Napoleon's Campaigns rather than WoN. Aside from possibly following the abov...

Re: A question about the AI

I have the game but haven't got into it enough yet to answer your question unfortunately. I've been a bit wary of taking the time to learn the systems in this one to be honest because of reading that the AI can't play the game In your experience, is the AI capable of providing a decent experience? A...

Re: Risorgimento - How to win as Austria

Thanks, I can see why the Austrians had a hard time! After a few more attempts trialling different approaches, I'm getting better at the scenario. I seem to get more success if I mount an offensive against Alessandria quickly, but defend and retreat rather than taking the city. Things get a bit easi...

Risorgimento - How to win as Austria

Hi all, After a long break, I've come back to Pride of Nations for another attempt at getting more comfortable with the battle system. I like the Risorgimento scenario for this as it's small and allows easy trial and error of strategies. I'm able to win fairly readily as Sardinia Piedmont but so far...

Re: Understanding why battles are won or lost

Thanks to everyone who has provided some advice on this. After watching some let's play videos for other ageod games and even reading some of their manuals, I think I'm starting to get more of an idea as to what the important things to control are. It does however also seem that sometimes you are fa...

Re: Understanding why battles are won or lost

Perhaps I'm not taking the randomness factor into account enough, I'll bear that in mind.

Sorry, by "deactivated" I meant that the leader had the brown envelope symbol and was not able to conduct offensive operations.

Re: Understanding why battles are won or lost

Hi, army was well supplied and at full cohesion. Stance was defensive, standard. Factors I've picked up that will be influencing things so far are: 1. My general had zero defensive skill, theirs had attacking skill two. 2. My army was deactivated (does this affect defensive battles?) 3. I had a fair...

Understanding why battles are won or lost

Hello all, I'm trying to get into the ageod games and am trying to understand the various bits of data the game presents me with. In particular, battle reports. I've opened this screen to try and determine why I've lost a particular battle but I find myself overwhelmed by it and can't really grasp w...

Re: Too many issues with Forcepool

Hello, I'm new to the game but thought I'd mention this as I'd just read this page in the manual. "Japan must build a new modern army and fleet – the traditional Units do not upgrade and are useful mainly for garrison and police duty" Could there be a flag against Japanese units that prohi...
