Re: How to do well against Sertorius

Thank you. This sounds as if I had been too impatient to wrap things up in Spain. I will re-start the campaign and see how things go with a more long-term strategy.

Re: A few beginner's questions

This makes things a lot clearer. Thank you. I am playing Pride of Nations concurrently with To End All Wars. I expect that the former will take a lot more time to fully understand, and I look forward to the experience.

Re: Question about command structure

Thank you. Got it to work now. This is indeed a matter of distance. Having worked this out, the command structure makes sense now, and otherwise, the transition into the game has not been so difficult, as far as the UI and at least the basic mechanics are concerned. An interesting strategic question...

How to do well against Sertorius

I have just started the Sertorius/Mithridates campaign for the first time, playing as the Romans. I have been playing Alea Iacta Est for a long time, but for some reason, I really struggle to deal with Sertorius. I have tried a number of strategies, either keeping Pompey in the north of spain and ma...

A few beginner's questions

I have been playing Victoria 2 for some time, but I am increasingly dissatisfied with some of the game's mechanisms. Pride of Nations seems like a great alternative, in terms of its level of detail and historical flair. I have played through the tutorial, watched a few videos on YouTube, and read a ...

Question about command structure

I am just expanding from Alea Iacta Est and Field of Glory: Empires into AGEOD's other games. Having played Alea Iacta Est extensively some of the basic mechanisms of To End All Wars are already clear to me. However, I struggle to understand the command structure. Example: I am just in the first tur...

Re: Septimius Severus Scenario Strategy?

I have played this scenario fairly extensively over the past few months, from all three sides. These are my observations: Two basic points to note: First, the scenario departs from historical events in that Didius Julianus, in all my playthroughs, is not murdered, with Italy subsequently falling to ...

Re: Caesar vs. Pompey: Winning strategy - Spain or the East?

Since I last posted, I took a detour and played a full campaign on Caesar's side. This turned out to be surprisingly easy. I defeated Pompey fairly early on in Greece, and he died near Patras about 35 turns into the campaign. After that, I played until turn 59 (October 45) before I achieved a full v...

Caesar vs. Pompey: Winning strategy - Spain or the East?

I am playing the Caesar vs. Pompey campaign, controlling the Senate side; only a few turns in so far. I have so far held my own fairly well against Caesar's forces; losing Italy and Sicily but doing well in Spain and Greece at the beginning of the campaign. I am now given the strategic choice for Po...
