Re: Peering over the Trench from

This is more about the lead-up to the war, but "The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went to War in 1914" by Christopher Clark was very sympathetic to Austria-Hungary, and delved into the Balkans-Russia-Austria side of the pre-war period.

Cool! Thanks for the screenshots, Andrzej! Very interesting to see. Looks like the foreign navies could be quite useful against the Union.

So 2 smallish Corps and 2 smallish fleets are about the extent of it... Can GB/FRA build more? Does the CSA player have control of those armies?

Anyone ever play a game where Britain and France came in?

I know it's very, very rare, ahistorical, etc., but has anyone ever had a game where either GB came in naturally, or you "forced" an event in the game files to make them intervene? I'm curious how it affects the war and what impact GB and France really have.

Thanks!

Re: New to This Game, Not to The Engine

From what I've seen on these forums, people typically keep planes with army stacks, as they sort of act as scouts. I don't know if there are benefits to keeping them out of combat or not, but I haven't really noticed a difference. For depots, make sure your supply wagons have all their chits; someti...

Re: Love this game hate the crashes...

Hi GuileMike, I think there are some settings in the options to lower the effects of attrition. I haven't played a lot of TYW, but I believe the general flow is to break apart armies and rest inside cities during the winter months; then recombine in the spring and conduct your offensive operations. ...

Re: Can't Attach Army to GHQ

Only thing I can think of is to double-check the command radius for Hindenburg. Been awhile since I've played, but if you click on your Hindenburg and press either "control" or "shift" (can't remember which), it'll show the command radius on the map for that Army group commander....

Grand Alliance basic strategy

Just wondering if anyone had a basic strategy to follow as the GA in the grand campaign. I've played lots of other AGEOD games, so I'm familiar with the nuts and bolts. After a few attempts (against Athena only, no PBEM), I'm wondering: 1) How strongly do you push into Italy? I don't know if I shoul...

Re: Siege warfare

I wonder if you could add a high penalty for assaulting a fortification without a breach? Would it be as simple as changing a variable in the code? I actually don't know if there's already a malus for assaulting without a breach, but if there is, maybe that couple be doubled/tripled/whatever.

Re: What should I put inside GHQs?

Hi Drakken, I'm not sure if this is optimal or "correct," but I always use my GHQs are just another Army. I load them up with Corps, etc., and place them in the line next to other Armies. I find the March to the Sound of the Guns too useful; I like to have as many potential supports nearby...

Re: Understanding why battles are won or lost

A couple quick things to check: What stance was your army in? If it was blue or green, it would try to retreat soon after combat starts. Were you well-supplied? If your army had little supply/ammo, your army would be much more likely to retreat. Any idea what your cohesion was? Low cohesion can caus...

Re: how works replacement?

It depends on the settings. If you have "auto replacements" "on," the AI will automatically use some of your money/WS/manpower on buying replacements. If you have it "off," you'll need to go to the war production screen "F2, I think) in the little book thingy. Ther...

Re: Who's in charge here?!!!

Haha, damn frustrating, isn't it? I think having ships locked while filling out can be stopped if you don't set them to "green/green" while in port. At least, that's been my experience as best I can recall. Having no replacement chits would probably work, too, but I'm honestly not sure.

Re: Bogus Subs, Control of the Undersea Cable, & all That

Not sure if it's different for PBEM, but I haven't seen the Lusitania or US anger when I keep U-boats out of the Atlantic shipping box against the AI. I still see the US drift towards the Entente slowly. Having U-boats in the Mediterranean box doesn't seem to anger the US, either. Not sure about sur...

Re: Using the Union Navy

Thanks, guys! Appreciate the help!

2 follow-up questions:

1) So in general, it's better to siege forts than storm them?

2) If you park ships outside a harbor, but there are forts there, will your ships get whittled down and sunk after a few turns?

Thanks again!

Using the Union Navy

Hi all, I've got a couple newbie questions on using the Union Navy properly. 1) I know the blockade squadrons go in the blockade boxes (as a single stack with transports, yes?). Should anything else go in the blockade boxes? In general, is it advisable to build more blockade squadrons? 2) What shoul...

Re: Hindenburg

I think you'd have to unassign his GHQ, and then re-make all your armies. You might take some morale hits doing this. Instead, you can just re-name the GHQ. I think if you alt-right click the tab where the army name is, it'll bring up a text box where you can re-name it. This works for any unit.

Hi Crow!

Make sure you have enough money and EPs for the decision to fire. The new generals should appear in your capital city on the next turn. Every new year you should get a few new generals in your capital as well.

Hope this helps!
