Re: When can we expect new patch?

Dear Friends,

Just wanted to second Elxaime's question! This is such a great game, and these two major wars have been traditionally so under-represented. It would be great to build on what we have here, and a shame to let it go!

Best,
Blas

Re: Grand Alliance PBEM strategy guide thread

Ditto! Many thanks for this Searry! It's great that folks are keeping this forum active! Out of curiosity, I've been thinking about ways to best organize the Dutch army ahead of the first summer of campaigning in the Low Countries. Scholarly consensus seems to be that they were in a tough spot strat...

Colonial/Overseas Boxes

Dear All, First, my sympathies to the AGEOD team re: health issues- I wish all concerned a speedy recovery! Second, I was just curious about which overseas regions in the Americas, Africa, and Asia will unlock as the game progresses? Work & RL commitments have been heavy the last 6 month, so I'm...

Dutch Reserve Stacks

Dear Friends, Pardon the newbie question, but when the States General and England declare war on the Bourbons, two fairly large stacks appear, with the names "Holland Reserve" and "Nimegen Reserve." Are the regiments in those stacks somehow part of the replacement pool? Or can we...

Re: Reading recommendations

Another interesting memoir is by an Irish officer, Captain Peter Drake, who soldiered for both the Grand Alliance and the Bourbons, in the Nine Year's War and the WoS. He gives eyewitness accounts of the battles of Ramillies, Malplaquet, and others: https://books.google.com/books/about/The_Memoirs_o...

Re: Reading recommendations

Hi All, For anyone interested in the experiences of ordinary soldiers and sailors in this period, I recommend the Life and Adventures of Matthew Bishop (free on archive.org). He served as a tar in the English navy and participated in the descent on Cadiz. Later, he switched to the infantry, and foug...

Campaign Maps from the Rijksmuseum

Hi All,

For those interested, the Rijksmuseum has lots of digitized original campaign and battle maps from the Spanish Succession, Nine Year's War, and earlier! Enjoy!

PBEM Clarification

Hi All, I'm trying a PBEM game for the very first time, and my friend and I are finding one aspect of the instructions a bit vague: [b]"Host sends HST file to opponent: The Hosting player now sends his opponent the HST file with the opponent’s designation (i.e. if you play the Swedish Alliance,...

Re: Ideas, suggestions & questions

Hi All, Just a quick idea for possible inclusion in a future patch/mod, which might enhance the colonial side of the conflict: The Dutch, English, and French East India company ships were all heavily armed. While not quite as powerful as dedicated ships of the line, they tended to mount at least as ...

Combined Allied Formations

Hey All, Just wanted to pose two quick Grand Alliance questions: 1. At the beginning of the full Spanish Succession campaign, independent Scottish and Swiss brigades appear in the Netherlands. Historically, I believe that these were (at least initially?) part of the States-General army. So I assume ...

Any ideas?

Restoring Session

Dear Friends, This game is proving to be something like a great wine- gorgeous, eminently enjoyable, and I keep coming back to it! Please pardon my inexperience, but I mistakenly deleted one of my saves (just clicked the wrong button when trying to take a game back a turn or two). I see the deleted ...

Re: Wars of Succession is OUT

Dear Ageod Team and Beta-Testers, I just purchased and am beginning to play Wars of Succession. Based on what I've seen and tried thus far, I just wanted to say, congratulations to you all! This game represents a brilliant gateway into a fascinating age. The gorgeous maps and portraits, the theme mu...

RNE Podcast about the War of the Spanish Succession

Dear All, For anyone who knows Spanish, here is a link to an RNE documentary on the war, with a particular emphasis on events in Spain and Catalonia. Note: I don't necessarily endorse all of the views/arguments expressed therein, but I did find it to be an interesting look at the period in which we'...

I suppose some of you may have already seen this, but thought I would share it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bs07OvqXp4&list=RD7bs07OvqXp4&t=7 A question for all: what was marching/battlefield music like in this period? Later 18th-century tunes seem to be pretty well-documented- what abo...

CD of Period Music

Dear All, As a newcomer to the forum (but not to Matrix titles), and as someone who's always been interested in this period, I'm looking forward to this! On the subject of music, I recently stumbled on a CD from the Dutch group Camerata Trajectina, "De Vrede van Utrecht (The Peace of Utrecht), ...
