Re: What Determines the Success of Sabotage Rail Command

Thanks Durk! That's helpful, but I've been using cavalry with a general in green/green, and they have done it some of the time, though they keep failing to do it too, and I can't figure out what the determining factor is. Does that just make it a dice roll or something? :EDIT: Wait, maybe it's activ...

What Determines the Success of Sabotage Rail Command

Howdy folks, I've got a quick question. What determines whether or not a stack manages to sabotage a rail line? Does it require a certain amount of power? If you are moving cavalry around as you're blowing up rail lines, do you need to keep their movement under a certain distances? I've tried figuri...

Re: CSA 3 Star Potential

Well, my campaign is going super well, and I've just taken Indianapolis, so my front is actually rather huge, ha. That's the issue. The line I'm holding is really spread out, so my corps have a tendency to get out of range of my armies if I'm just using corps.

Battle Questions and Other Sundries

Howdy guys, I've got another set of questions for y'all. First off, is there a good explanation of the Battle Planner options, where you make the choices of different tactics for your army? I've searched the forums and haven't found anything. Google has also proven unhelpful. I've got some other que...

Re: Adding Promotions for a General

Thanks Grimjaw! I had seen those 'future generals' and wondered what they were for. I think I follow. I suppose I'll find out after I finish and try a new game! :D I've managed to piece together a list of abilities by going through all of the generals, but if there is a master list somewhere, I'd ce...

Re: CSA 3 Star Potential

Thanks Durk. Those are who I have employed at the moment, plus Lee. I'd like at least one more army to help hold the line in between the others out west, but yeah, I realize that just because you CAN have 6 armies doesn't mean you should.

Adding Promotions for a General

Howdy folks, I have recently been getting back into this game and finally remembered how to edit generals, but I'm wondering about how to do something beyond just changing stats and abilities. If I want to add the ability for a general like, say, CSA's Shelby or Stand Watie, to be promoted, what all...

Re: CSA 3 Star Potential

Thanks Durk! I'm beginning to get a hang of things, but I can't help but feeling I'm overlooking some options. In the mid-game, you can field 6 armies, but I'm hard pressed to find 4 workable generals, aside from Jackson and Longstreet. I would definitely be interested in that chart if anyone knows ...

CSA 3 Star Potential

Howdy folks, I've been playing this game off and on for years, and it is a favorite of mine. I recently picked it back up and have been getting back into it and relearning everything (always a big job on a game this complex!), and I find myself with a question. Who are the best contenders for promot...

Howdy guys. I'm looking to add some new music to the game, but the links to the how-tos seem to be dead. How do you manage it?

Re: Questions From a Newcomer

Here's another question for y'all. I've been reading up on artillery usage, and I've heard that 6lbers are pretty much useless. The exception, or so I read, is in swamps, where all artillery is reduced to their range. I also hear that a 6lber will shut down a river for supply transport. Here's what ...

Re: Looking to Get Started

Well, I hadn't heard back from anyone, so I did some more experimentation, and I've figured a lot of stuff out. It turns out that what I was looking for wasn't even in that piece of code. It was in an innocuous looking piece ABOVE it. I don't know if this is available anywhere (I certainly haven't b...

Re: Looking to Get Started

Thanks Tribectus! Following your advice, I edited the files directly, and I've had a lot of success with some minor edits. I've freed Lee, I've tweaked some generals and, thanks to the work y'all did in the portraits thread, I replaced a lot of the CSA clone generals. I've also set Kentucky to seced...

Re: Looking to Get Started

Okay, I've been reading through the various threads you suggested and through the materials in the general modding forum, and I'm starting to figure things out, but I have a few specific questions. First, when you download the database files, there are two versions of a lot of the databases. For exa...

Re: Portrait mod

Man, y'all have done a lot of great work here! These portraits will add a lot to the game, replacing the "clone army" and all. Thanks for all y'all have done!

Has anyone packed all of these up together?

Re: Who's Worth Promoting?

Thanks guys! Well, that's a bit disappointing. Basically, you can't field another decent (and barely so) three star general without sacrificing an excellent lower ranker. Darn. I suppose Kirby Smith will have to do.

Durk, I'm not sure I follow. Why is it better to have fewer army commanders?

Who's Worth Promoting?

Howdy guys, I'm starting to get my sea-legs with this game, and now I'm trying to make smart strategic choices. I was looking for some advice about CSA generals. I've discovered that some lose stats when promoted (poor Longstreet!), becoming worse the higher they climb. Who is worth it/safe to promo...

Re: Questions From a Newcomer

Ahh, thanks Grimjaw, that actually does make sense, as I think there was definitely something going on with the special brigs I was given and the locking down. On the topic of repairing the other ships, though, does that also require replacements? Is there any way to force or help this when using au...

Re: Questions From a Newcomer

Well, it seems I spoke too soon. I thought I had a handle on everything thanks to y'all's advice, but it seems there are still some mysteries to be unraveled. I read Captain Orso's description of how ships regain health, and that seemed to make sense. Yet, I've had three different groups of ships si...

Re: Questions From a Newcomer

Wow, thanks guys! This has all been tremendously helpful! :D

I think I'm finally starting to get a hang of this game. There is a great deal here that isn't obvious or easily accessible, but man, is it excellent.

Re: Questions From a Newcomer

Thanks Gray Fox, once again, that is really helpful! I had gotten bits and pieces of that here and there, but that is a much clearer and more complete picture. I think I'm beginning to get a handle on this game's complexities. So, pontoons do not mitigate the river crossing combat penalty like marin...

Training Not Working

Howdy, I'm not 100% sure that this is a bug, as I'm new to the game and it is possible I'm just missing something. Please bear with me if that is the case. My issue is that training doesn't seem to work. I've played a few different games now, and placing either a general with the Training Master or ...

Looking to Get Started

Howdy gents, I just posted in the larger forum with some questions about the basic game, as I'm having some trouble finding my sea-legs with it. As part of that, though, I'd like to do some customization as well. I really have fallen in love with this game, but I am looking to get started with moddi...

Questions From a Newcomer

Hello! I just bought this game recently, and I've been grappling with it ever since. I found it very frustrating at first, and I certainly see what folks say about the CSA not having much of a chance (I always prefer it when games like this give you the chance to be a little ahistorical in the asymm...
