Re: Moving troops out of besieged cities by sea

Load the troops, put the whole force into passive mode, select avoid combat. This will get you out.

I managed to make this work in my current game. Perfect.

Re: Defending behind a river

Oh I'm Pompey... Antonius' army has crossed from the province in red and crossed into the same province as me. There is a river between the two provinces. I was expecting that he would *have* to make that crossing in an offensive stance since he is entering a province 100% military controlled by me....

Re: Locked units not released in a siege.

For the benefit of anybody reading this thread. Locked units in cities under siege can be dragged and dropped outside the city and they will attack or defend as per their stance. If they have no chance of winning, you can set them to green/green and the besiegers will probably attack them, unlocking...

Defending behind a river

Sigh somebody needs to explain this to me. See the attached picture. https://photos.app.goo.gl/DknEbzMbtx61djts7 Pompey is behind a river in blue/orange defensive stance. The area Pompey is in is 100% military controlled by him. But Antonius is able to cross the river and occupy the same region with...

Re: Locked units not released in a siege.

Yes they're usually a bit cr@ppy which is probably why I've never considered this issue before. Being able to sally out in support of an external relief force is probably the most useful thing they can do.

Locked units not released in a siege.

Here's an interesting one which I've just noticed. I have cities with locked units. The tooltip says "yada yada ... but will be unlocked if attacked". But "attacked" doesn't seem to mean besieged? If the besiegers just sit outside the walls and wait to starve me out, these guys n...

Re: Naval combat from blockaded ports.

Excellent summary as usual, thanks Durk. One other thing to note is that the wego system can allow the land and sea battles to interact in a favourable way. My fleet loaded with my land forces sailed out. Then the enemy land forces seized the town which meant that, following the sea battle, my fleet...

Naval combat from blockaded ports.

Hmmm... I'm assuming that my naval force in a blockaded port can just sail out and engage the blockading forces. Or are they restricted in the same way as besieged land forces where they can only sally out in support of an external attacking force? I can see why this might be restricted as a defeat ...

Re: reconnaissance, probes and retreats

What if you wait for the 24 turns to elapse? Hi Pocus I imagine that would work if you *could* wait, but generally the AI won't let you. 24 turns is enough to get across the "board" and I think that, in any situation where I could not win due to my army's weakness, the AI will "reali...

Re: reconnaissance, probes and retreats

Thanks, that's all clear. It is a different game to AJE - I'm probably just advancing and conquering one region at a time with no sweeping maneuvers across the countryside. The idea of using this game to add context to the FoG II tactical games is a real selling point but. If there is some way to ad...

reconnaissance, probes and retreats

Coming from the old AJE scene I'm slowly adjusting to this wonderful new game. Old tactics die hard but. So some questions: 1. I seem to be able to inspect the army composition of enemy armies in neighbouring regions. Is this guaranteed to be accurate or is there some fog of war element? Is there so...

Re: Tannenberg. Or, dude where's my army?

You need 3* for armies...... OK that explains it then :crying: Then the next thing I need to clarify is whether it is really possible to synchronize the moves of stacks not related by the GHQ-Army connection? The UI certainly allows me to click the button but since they're only moving a coup...

Tannenberg. Or, dude where's my army?

I'm having a look at TEAW via the East Prussia scenario and tutorial. I've managed to convert Hindenburg's stack into the OHL, but I can't seem to convert any of my 2-star Armee-Korps into actual *armies* (ie stacks with the diamond on their tab and so forth). See the error message in the screenshot...

And Empires is the spiritual heir to AGE... Yes that seems to be the case based on the FoG:E screenshots I've seen so far. The data items in the tooltips and dialog boxes do seem to be in the finest traditions of the AGEOD œuvre :coeurs: -- just a lot easier to find and interpret. It's gonna be a h...

Thanks for the heads-up on "RgnDecisions". That makes everything much clearer. In the relevant files we have: Punish.rgd -> BaseSuccess = 33 and Pacify.rgd -> BaseSuccess = 75. Looks like I better use a lot more Pacify. Neither file has "CityMinLevel" but both files have "Ci...

Hi Durk This screenshot shows the tooltip text for the 'pacify' and 'punish' decisions: https://photos.app.goo.gl/cyhfuNtvo6xAwzir5 There is no mention of any probability of success - unlike other decisions which do have a chance of failure over multiple turns. Moving troops out of besieged cities by sea

I have an odd situation where I load some troops in a besieged city onto ships. I can drag the stack out of the city and to a neighboring port and the troops appear to be leaving with the ships. But when I complete the turn and check what happened, the ships have arrived at their destination but the...

Back playing AJE and with a couple of new issues. I'm trying to use the 'punish' decision to boost MC in key locations but when I do, I get a message saying that it was unsuccessful. There seems to be a probability issue that isn't mentioned anywhere. What determines whether the decision is applied ...

On page 13 of my manual, there is a discussion of how declining national morale decreases production and supply: a 5% production decline per each 10-unit decline in national morale. OK, that's clear. Then on the next line we have the statement "NB Production is directly affected by region loyal...

Re: Actual city supply and province loyalty again.

I think there might be more to it. The basics of supply seem to be: multiply the tooltip value by 5 and keep the total stack consumption below that number. But I've got a bunch of starvin' marvin Parthians telling me the numbers don't add up. :pleure: Is it possible that terrain matters too? The des...

Yes, thanks. I realize that I have always operated under the belief that besieged forces were trapped in the city. Oh dear... a couple of interesting things happening in my latest game. :bonk: The supply available from a city is reported in the tooltip but *actual* supply is reduced if my side's loyalty in that province is low but that reduction is not reflected in the tooltip. So for city X, tooltip supply numb...

Marching to the sound of the ballistae

There's one very important point that I suspect I still don't quite get. If I have (say) 3 stacks in a province, all on blue/blue and one enemy stack on orange/* enters the province, which stack does it attack? All three, or one? If one, which one? If I want maximum force in a province do I make one...
