Re: Poll. New engine first game.

I chose civil war 3, but if fantasy was Lord of the Rings, that would be my first. I also regret know I did not chose crusades. :bonk:

Ageod Middle Earth?

As a big Tolkien fan I must ask if Ageod would ever go fantasy into middle earth. Or, is that something modders would be able to do [edit map etc] if they had the interest?

Re: Ageod Medieval Warfare?

Total war has a crusader/holy lands expansion pack with a 3 v 2 version, great for hotseat mode. But I would love one of the whole of europe and the middle east with the ability to go on crusades, like total war does.

Re: Does the Southern Player in PBEM Survive the war?

Depends on the player! I can think of a lot of PBEM folks playing the south that could make it to 65. ... But real life has a way of ending games before you get that deep in the game. Hats off to you for going the distance. Quit? never. I have never not finished a war neither has any of my opponent...

Does the Southern Player in PBEM Survive the war?

So I am in a long bitter fight that is know going against me as the southern player. I have played many wars as the south against newer players and I usually win. It is mid 64 and my goal now is to try and survive. So my question is does the southern player usually make it till the end of 65 in pbem...

Re: Can the CSA actually win?

The CSA wins as often as the us wins in my time playing. The better player is the one who wins. I would add historically the csa almost did win before atlanta fell. I do think the vps make it to easy for the north to win on vps. The key as the south is not to sit back and dig in, but be aggressive, ...

Re: George B McClellan the Most Underrated general of the Civil war

It seems to me that Mac got the intelligence he wanted. He was predisposed to consider himself outnumbered, and his interpretations of reports re-enforced the message. The idea the rebs had 100 to 200,000 men was simply not credible. Heck, the scandal in January 62 when Manassas was evacuated by th...

Re: William T Sherman- The Most Overrated General of the Civil war?

I can see what your saying but the fact is as I stated, many commanders used more than one regiment at bull run and all generals would still be using swords/ shields if nothing new was done or tried. If standard doctrine defies common sense, if you wont to be considered great, don't follow it. If L...

Re: William T Sherman- The Most Overrated General of the Civil war?

Not everyone finds Lee, Jackson, Grant, or Forrest "great." Lee was good at retreating warfare. On the offensive he wasn't so great. Jackson was good as he was going up against some of the worst Union generals. Would he have done as well against the better Union generals that came along l...

Re: William T Sherman- The Most Overrated General of the Civil war?

No I was looking more for common sense. Like I said, if common thought is wrong, dont follow it if you want to be considered great. That is why men like Grant/Lee/Jackson etc are great. Jackson at bull run in many ways did not follow standard tactics, and it made him great at bull run. Its not like...

Re: William T Sherman- The Most Overrated General of the Civil war?

It seems you are expecting a brigade commander, who's only combat experience was as a 2nd lieutenant during the 2nd Seminole War, to throw military doctrine to the wind during the first major engagement of the war and devise his own tactics on the spot. That is far from a realistic expectation, in ...

Re: William T Sherman- The Most Overrated General of the Civil war?

I have no intention of getting into a big discussion, but there are a couple of points I'd like to make. Sherman's single regiment attacks at First Manassas was conform with the tactics the army used at the time. In fact, William Franklin was the only brigade commander to have committed 2 regiments...

Re: William T Sherman- The Most Overrated General of the Civil war?

Just a quick comment. Thomas didn't lead the attack at Chattanooga. He was with Grant during the whole attack and had only ordered a demonstration. His troops, after overrunning the first line of rifle pits decided, on their own initiative, to keep going. Thomas was as supersized as Grant that they...

Re: George B McClellan the Most Underrated general of the Civil war

I think McClellan's reputation is deserved. He had a tendency for absenteeism on the campaign ( for most of the Peninsula campaign's engagements, he was absent from the field and tactical control fell on his corps commanders. Many attribute the successes in West Virginia to aggressive work by his s...
