I checked the logs. Although the USA attacks resulted in 35 hit events to my 9, every few actual hits were delivered due to IC protection levels (I assume) Regardless, at end of battle my most damaged IC had 18 hits remaining, and my force took 4 hits during withdrawl (I don't know if those were act...

I ran into this too. It's really hard to get a "perfect" division with the CSA. I guess it's easier as the USA? I haven't played USA yet. You just need MOAR , and you need it now. I recommend on building everything you can that is geographically close (to minimize impact on your rail/riverine pools)...

NM loss for naval battle?

I'm in the terminal stages of a game as the south, and it's clear I should have upped the AI from the get go, but I'm having fun with it. Anyway, I'm building an ironclad fleet, and I took 4 out to have a tussle with the Union fleet at Hampton Roads (I hold Ft. Monroe). I "lost" the battle, although...

The resolution to this story is that the 3 union divisions didn't unload at Suffolk. (maybe they can't unload with insufficient transport?). So when my ironclad came out from it's resupply in Norfolk, it apparently did battle directly with the divisions (probably after taking the last few hits from ...

A crowded boat

Union loaded 3 divisions onto sea transports, and then between land guns and an iron clad, I blew the fleet the damn away, until now there is only 11 transport capacity (2 ships, each with 1 health), but it's still carrying all 3 divisions (and a supply unit) . How is this possible? Is this fleet go...

Congrats on taking St Louis! It felt really good didn't it? It was fun. JO Shelby pioneering blitz warfare in the 19th century, using paddle driven steamers to terrorize Union commanders. Does make one wonder what a well planned and staffed expedition up the Mississippi in the fall of 1861 might ha...

on the unit card, it says it has 4/4 supply, 4/4 ammo (for infantry). Or in my case, 2/4 ammo or 0/4 ammo. As it turned out, I was able to use riverine transport to shift a supply unit up to the division in time. And then it didn't matter because my general went brown and the Union, led by McClellan...

I would guess that said rail line would run through Springfield, IL, which I do not control. There is not a direct line from STL. ...

Food but not ammo?

Just noticed one of my stacks is getting supplied with GS but not ammo. How can this be? The stack is attacking Quincy, north of Gilead's Landing/St. Charles/St. Louis. And there is no Union river traffic to cut supply. Obviously, St. Louis is full of ammo supply, but how is it just not getting to t...

The range limit was my rationale for not bothering with 10/20 lb guns (playing as south v ai). It felt like there were enough instances where the 12's didn't get their full 5 range as it was that I couldn't justify the extra $$ and WS for a 10 over a 12. I suppose playing as the north, with less eco...

Isn't the extra range on the 10s and 20s over 12s often wasted by terrain limits?

I noticed the decline in ability when I promoted Longstreet to 3 star. Extra disappointing since I didn't actually have any need for him to be a 3 star. I guess I can live with shelby staying as 1 star (historically his promotion to 2 stars was one of the late ones that was never confirmed). Was hop...

Questions

1) is jo shelby not eligible for promotion? He's got 2 stars of experience, is up to 6-5-5, and has increased his seniority by 16 points so far, but I've never had the message that I could promote him. I think I read not all generals are open to promotion. 2) is there a guide for reading the unit de...

Sieging St. Louis

Ok, so the situation is that I have the main USA Mississippi Valley presence boxed in (next to) St. Louis, but they are strongly entrenched, so I'm hesitant to do the frontal assault thing. It's early June '62. I can place a division at St. Charles, a strong force in the St. Louis region, a division...

Merlin:

I'm building Forrest a cav division in North Tennessee. Kentucky has not dropped yet (it's April 62), and when it does Forrest will be ready.

Agree. In my case though, it's Grant under siege in St Louis. Fortunately.

I agree about Shelby clearly being aimed at cavalry and raiding actions, but when I'm facing Grant and not giving Shelby a division means giving one to Polk (or worse), well... how can I refuse?

General / unit management question

I am playing a grand campaign, as the south (nothing like diving in), and it's spring '62. Things are going, well, not terrible, as AS Johnston as Grant under siege, penned up in St. Louis, Lee and JE Johnston hold the line at the Potomac, and PTB chases random elements in East VA. A partisan unit h...

I recall that I had the '-' option for Stonewall's bge, but maybe I was looking at something else.

Replacements (newbie q)

In opening moves, Jackon's brigade got ripped apart while taking Harper's Ferry. Of course, it's all elite elements. Turns later, it's still decimated. Will I have to purchase replacement points, or if I move him back to a depot and go g/g, will they eventually refill over time (so that I can then s...
