I believe this has been mentioned before, but I get loss results from French attacks ( turn one, never went beyond) ranging from 70.000 to 95.000 per battle. That is deliriously too high... Also, the Belgian Army behaves strangely, doesn't retreat to Antwerp, keeps a very forward position, evn movin...

Well, something like one single message that provides all the narrative elements that are currently dispersed between vague messages in the message log and little icons that you have to click on and God knows where else.

you just need to be able to decipher the messages. they may seem incomprehensible it's a bit of a pity that one needs to put so much effort into deciphering the messages in order to try and have some sort of picture of what is happening and where. I may sound complicated, but there are so many oddi...

I agree with Rongor 150%. I basically expressed the same frustration, while in a less articulate and pedagogical way, in my last post on the Western 1914 scenario. I really don't mind complexity, in fact I revel in complexity and that's why I like playing wargames rather than shooting zombies or som...

oK, so can anyone explain how to deal with the first turn? I'd like my armies to assault Liège and then proceed to assault Namur. How does one do that? I get the strangest results and have no idea why one army moves, why the other doesn't, why one reverts to the defensive when not asked to, why some...

The other red stance? I thought it had to do with the intensity of the attack, not whether the attack is made at the beginning or the end of the movement...   I actually put both I and II armies in all-out assault mode and they remained immobile. Other forces in the re...

West 1914 scenario

God I'm struggling to understand this game I really am... I tried the first turn of the Western 1914 scenario twice: first surprising thing... not a single French attack!!! what happened to Plan XVII?? Then I set von Kluck in motion, assault posture, forced march and all, von Bulow too. End of the t...

Well, we're not dealing with stone age tribes here. Coordination was within the capabilities of the military leadership at the time. Now, that some in-game routines checking for SNAFU's may disrupt plans, that's another thing ( based on leader levels and characteristics as bonuses or penalties). but...

Ok, there is some improvement with the patch, specially regarding battle plans, and thanks for that! It really could use a little more depth (specially for the You won/you lost thing that tells you nothing about the battle and sometimes contradicts the outcome as given by the info screen)

movement plotting

Is there a "wait" order that delays a unit, in order to coordinate a converging attack with stacks arriving later in the region? ( I have had nasty surprises with small stacks attacking alone without waiting for reinforcing forxes, just because they were closer to their target). OrOr a button orderi...

Well, honestly, the depth of a game is kinda lost to me if I don't understand what is going on. As a wargamer, I like to try and design a strategy that makes the best out of the game mechanisms ( I mean playing efficiently by applying game mechanisms that simulate reality, not exploiting loopholes o...

battle narrative

In 2014, it can be frustrating to "witness" an epic computer battle without any animation or special effect of any kind. That's ok, TEAW is not that kinda game. Yet, a little more narrative depth for battles would be welcome, and is that's pretty easy to do. I would really like to have some adjectiv...

Frontage could be the answer Ace... good suggestions. I hope the design team take a look at these! Well... I confess I'm not too sure. Reducing frontage, if I understood the combat engine well (and I admit it is still somewhat opaque to me), would reduce the magnitude of the battle, by reducing the...

The problem facing the game designers is how to make a game engine that 'behaves' realistically on the western and eastern fronts where combat took on a different nature. Indeed. But it might be simpler than it looks. It all depends on the defensive bonus. If, on the Eastern front, defensive bonuse...

Well, even the winning side can suffer gun losses. They're not only a function of defeat. But yes, there should be a higher loss rate for guns, aggravated by: retreat/routs enemy cavalry superiority enemy wave assault tactics (if victorious) And actually, I noticed horses seem to be pretty untouchab...

Trench warfare

I’d like to echo a concern voiced by HHFD50 and ajarnlance on the TEAW wishlist thread: Trench warfare (…) The game seems to lack this element-arguably the "face" of the whole war. Ranged artillery LAND bombardment Trench warfare on the western front really needs to be more realistic. Most battles i...

I guess the number of troops displayed only indicates number of troops present, not actually commited to battle.

It would be really nice to have both, to gain better insight into what really happened and why, and a better grasp of the effects of frontage...

I agree. Diplomacy and country alignment are influenced by very intangible factors. Their translation into numbers, giving you a precise idea of where the countries stand, without margin of error, feels a little wrong and removes a nice element of suspense from the game (as it was in real life histo...

What about in pbem games where you cant select those option though? Precisely... In addition, even if the tactical posture doesn't specifically focus on counterbattery, eventually some guns still end up getting lost, overrun, captured, destroyed by direct hit or area bombardment, etc. A strict 0% (...

Guns quasi invulnerability

Guns seem to incur very few losses, if any, even in battles with zillions of them on each side! Checking the AARs and battle screen captures available on the internet, this seems to be a generalized trend... This is far from realistic. Large battles very often featured prolonged counterba...

Hi everyone very interesting thread! I'd like to throw in my two cents and echo a concern voiced by Haresus earlier on. It was already a problem in La Grande Guerre , the brilliant wargame that inspired TEAW, ( and I remember discussing rules with Phillipe at the time, some of them related to naval ...
