Kimberley

Bit of a strange one... Playing as GB in the Scramble for Africa campaign, I claimed Kimberley from the OFS, fought and won the war, and they offered me it as the peace agreement. All was good until (after a couple of years), I got a message that I could no longer maintain the fort I had built there...

Thanks Kensai,

I will give that a go - I see 'Stake' as an option on the Colonial thing, but have never been able to play one... I guess it will become available when I have enough penetration?

East African Confusion

It is mid-1886 and I am still playing the Scramble for Africa scenario as Great Britain. Germany managed to declare protectorate status in Mombasa and Dar Es Salaam while I was busy elsewhere. I countered by playing lots of colonial actions in those provinces, building structures and deploying troop...

Ah - OK - Asset Balance. I should have read the manual more thoroughly.

I notice that this uses private capital to buy the steel though - if I am using it to build battleships, should I not be able to use government money?

Many thanks to all for the replies. A couple of more (equally stupid) questions: If my production is very close to my consumption, then I don't see why my stocks of steel would remain about 250 even after I have built other ships? That was why I wondered if it was a stockpile limit issue? And how do...

Steel stockpiles

(yet another) stupid question: I am still playing as Great Britain in the 1880 / Scramble for Africa scenario, and am trying to build Battleships. However, I can never seem to stockpile enough steel (300 units) to do this - I am only in 1883, if that is important. My steel stocks seem to hang about ...

You probably need to recruit replacements. Look at the F3 screen, bottom right - the Replacement Pool. You recruit replacements there for each unit type - infantry, cavalry, etc. If you see red numbers over any of the unit counters, that means you need replacements for that type of unit. Mouse over...

Converting from sail to steam

I was keen to swap from Warships to Battleships, but was surprised to see that, if I disband my old sail-powered warships, I pay a penalty in victory points / national morale. Surely one should be able to disband obsolete units and gain something (rather than pay a penalty) as a result? Like x numbe...

Units recovering strength... or not

Sorry, but another stupid question My Royal Marine Brigade took quite a mauling, and the 'manpower' indicator on the counter was completely white. On looking on the detail, the two NATO counters depicting the marine regiments were both red, and both were showing to be 100/3200. So pretty badly maule...

Thanks Loki So its not possible to actually 'own' Egypt, and they will keep rebelling as long as I am there, I suppose? If one doesn't invade Egypt, I wonder if there is any sort of 'event' which triggers a British protectorate state over the country and allows you to play the whole Rescue of Gordon...

Thanks for that, and for your welcome on the other thread. That's kinda what I figured, but I guess I expected the loss of their capital (and the defeat of all their armies) to be enough! I assume that, in the Boer War of 1899-1902 (or however it plays out), one can annex the whole country? I am sti...

Britain vs the OFS

Another stupid question: Playing as Great Britain in the Scramble for Africa scenario, I got a CB against the OFS after they grabbed Kimberley. I quickly defeated them, invaded their entire country and basically sat there 'in occupation' for a year without being able to claim Kimberley as the war wi...

Britain invading Egypt

I am new to PoN, so this is probably a very stupid question. I'm playing as Great Britain in the Scramble for Africa scenario, and decided to invade Egypt (I had a long-term CB against them). All went OK, but I don't seem to be able to annex the place. Also, I found myself fighting British generals ...
