Searching for a PBEM Game!

It's been ages since I played this game, but looking for a new game. I am very rusty, so bear with me. Anyone up for one?

I'll go with either side, you pick

Eons ago I did an AAR, back in 2013:

Really? I didn't understand that relationship previously. That helps a great deal. I did this at Charleston and New Orleans; if you build a Telegraph, these regions gain 5 development, and become "Rich". That seems to give you a couple extra bucks a turn, well worth the expense. It may be hard to s...

Regions are not all 1 or 3 Vps; they range from 1 to 4 (or maybe 5?). You have to check the Regional Ledger to see the tally. You can't see ones your opponent has, but you can always open an 1861 game as the other side and check it out. The only ones that won't be in there are Tuscon and one or two ...

In terms of money, a few points: 1. I find the REQUISITIONS cards have a pretty low cost in return for what they bring. They lower loyalty, so use them on small towns. But they are good source of extra cash. 2. Same on PLUNDER. It really lowers loyalty, but who cares.....they probably hate you there...

The Anaconda plan was merely the first plan, Scott didn't have the opportunity to update it with later iterations. I think it was a good plan for 1861, and certainly a blockade was a no-brainer idea One thread that unifies Scott, Grant, and all Union strategies: They were meant to attack the economi...

Do we wish it can be done against human player. I do not think so. I don't either, I think it's fine the USA cannot in-game. It just is important when Union players compare their progress to history, it probably won't compare well. It's similar to WITP in that way; Japanese in-game are more powerfu...

That's well done, and it's not easy actually to take DC on the hardest settings. So kudos.

But as previous poster says, against Athena and against the Living are two different things.

Sounds like you are ready for PBEM

Very nice AAR in terms of style and showing a few tricks, I learned from reading. I applaud the effort. Game balance is an important subject, and while this is helpful for those who play vs. Athena, respectfully I don't think we can draw any conclusions from it vs. the living. We could run an AAR ov...

Alright, sad news friends. The AAR is done :( The last time I did this with Soundoff I was younger and I had quite a bit more time on my hands to use in producing it. There is also a considerably diminished interest (for a variety of reasons, all understandable). I appreciate everyone keeping along...

Good AAR, like the style. Randomized generals makes an enormous difference, particularly for the Union. Having McDowell be a 3-4-4 is pretty big, he is usable now the entire game. I also separates all the 3-1-1 generals for sure.

Excellent comment, and you may be right. But, from what I grasped Soundoff's style of play, he is very cautious and meticulous in his preparations. He may miss an opportunity now and then, but he'll never make an error most of us are prone to do. For example, in their AACW match, Banks has lost an ...

The feature models this quite well. The only problem I see with it is that Army commander do not pass their traits to subordinate corps, like beloved ability for example. At the same time, quick angered ability trait is passed down. So it can be done, but why it is not done, I do not know. That bug...

I also forget Auto-Replace; you end up buying stuff you don't want/need, particularly as Confederacy.

Always check the replacements first before you buy anything each turn; I sometimes forget to do this, but if you are doing it yourself, Replacements should get first priority for builds

It's been a while since we commented about those two guys fighting it out. So, far most of the fighting has been around Harper's Ferry. Soundoff has managed to take it, but still does not hold total MC of the area. What would you do if you were Banks, would you rail McDowell army to the area and tr...

I´m having another problem with Kentucky in a pbem game as the USA. I received the "KY leaning towards Union" event in early may (with the event text missing, as have already been reported in another thread, by the way). In the next turn (late may), I can´t still move through KY. Is this WAD? What´...

KY Event Problems

Playing as CSA......received an event message in March 1862, entitled "Kentucky Leans to the Union" or something similar. However, the text box was empty, there was an error message....clearly not working It's also April now, and Kentucky is still closed....IIRC, there is a 50% chance per turn of op...

There is a downside to this configuration. During combat an enemy force will not target the Army if there is an active Corps in the region. A wily opponent would attack the Army stack and let the Corps mtsg in support. Once that Corps enters the region and joins in the combat, it's units will get a...

Army vs. Corps Command

I am still not sure of a couple things on Corps/Army commands, specifically what the difference is between forming a Corps, and using an Army stack as a "Corps". This is an expediency probably more for the CSA, who lacks enough 2*. Suppose Johnston commands 6 divisions, split into 1 3-division Corps...

Confederate Fortifications: The Guns

I have a question for veteran players on the Gun choices available to the Rebs for fortifications. You have the opportunity to build some forts in key places, but the next problem is what kind of guns do you put there? You can build Coastal Artillery, but that is expensive and immobile. So, some fol...

I remember the devs saying game rank does not equal historical rank. It's an abstraction, so beyond game balancing I wouldn't worry too much about who has 1 star or 2 stars. I don't want to beat this drum too much, because the devs did great work and made many great decisions. But leaders was not o...

Yeah, I definitely try to structure mine almost exactly like that, but you know how it is, most of the stacks I have are just thrown together bits and pieces of whatever could make it to the battlefield in time, organized as best I can on the fly. No, it doesn't get any better. You end up needing t...

No, just returning to the original vanilla AACW setup. The KY Rule was a mod, first. Then it was officialized and available as a Start - one could play 'with KY (rule)" or stick with vanilla. * The present Starts in 61 are more favorable to the Union than the old KY Rule - imo. * "No KY' would mean...

Does changing the loyalty though have that huge of an impact on production anyway? I have not observed a big difference. Some, but not alot. That would be the only real reason to employ those cards anyway. Yeah, FOW, but that impact is limited away from the front. It would be a bigger deal if Loyalt...

Gunboats can be built upstream of Mussel Shoals, they were in RL, Union had few tinclads operating in the area from 63 onwards. They even tried to block Hood's Nashville Campaign movements. There are ports on the right side of the river. The remedy is to build gunboats of your own. I checked as CSA...

How do you like HR idea for simultaneous invasions in Sep,61 It's not a bad idea. I feel like KY was going to open shortly after September anyway. Was Polk just stupid? I've red somewhere that pro Confederates actually boycoted the elections knowing they would lose, with the effect of giving 9/10 seats to the Unionists. So the state was majority pro Union, but not 9/10 of the state. Of course, I would be happy if it did join the Union on default a bit earlier than...

Question on Flatboats/Mortarboats

Question on these types....do they prevent or interdict unit movement across rivers? This is important, because if the answer is YES, there is an unintended consequence of the otherwise reasonable move to block Mussel Shoals to river movement. If they CAN, then the CSA player can build a couple in C...
