Anyone else having issues installing this patch? I attempt to install the patch and then it says, "Civil War II could not be located on your system. Re-install Civil War II and then run this patch again." I've had no issues installing previous patches, so I'm not sure why all of a sudden I'm having ...

I think they're supposed to be, but I've lost Lee in battle in CWII - it's only happened once, but it's happened.

You have to switch to unit leader, then you filter out stacks without leaders, and there you should see all your generals, by names. It should be in red if promotable. Not super easy to find if you don't know where to look at, we understand that... This is a stop-gap measure until we find time to d...

Promotable generals' names red?

As per the last patch, it was stated that the player can view all promotable generals using F1 and their names would be in red. I've fought and won several major battles, but none of the generals come up as red on this page. Is it working as intended and I'm missing something? Related to that, I see...

Warning for "demoting" generals

I combined a couple of armies and sent one 3-star general out west. In the process, I forgot to "repromote" one of the 3-star generals (to army commander, still 3 stars) and ended up paying 5 morale for this (and I did it twice - it was only the second time when I figured out what I had done). Is th...

John B Floyd stuck in WV

Every time I start a new game, I have about a 75% chance of having John Floyd and his troops stuck in WV (only time I've saved him was when union troops didn't attack, which has only happened in one game I think). Because the Union troops near him activate before him, they attack and he loses cohesi...

Ah, yes, likely it was... but it's still a very vague statement as I assumed that the message was referring to the major battle I had just won. Another 12 turns later, I finally realized that the game had been over for a while.

End of game screen

As my game went to Jan, 1866 a small box appeared that read something like, "You've won a major battle." It had a screen showing an artistic portrait of Lee's surrender at Appomattox (which made sense because I just had a battle of 6,000 casualties versus 37,000, including taking 20,000 prisoners). ...

Good post. Most of your observations are encouraging. One thought, though: I wonder if perhaps the CSA has too much manpower (or, conversely, perhaps the USA has too little). Realistically, the CSA should have to resort to conscription to keep up with the USA. This strikes me a signal of a game bal...

Lessons Learned after First Full Campaign

Thought I'd share a few lessons that I've learned after playing my first full campaign as the CSA vs Athena. Please let me know your thoughts - whether you agree or disagree. 1. Organization of your army / divisions / corps is drastically more important than absolute size. A small and well-organized...

Large Naval Battle Activated Field Tactics

I had excess money and war supplies in 64/65 as the CSA and created a large fleet - approx 7000+ in strength. I sent the fleet north to New York City and engaged a USA fleet of nearly the same size. A battle tactics screen popped up and I was able to select a cavalry-based tactic (ended up winning t...

I hadn't seen the overcrowding rule before: It says a fort should have a max of 25 troops for most efficient protection. Does this mean 2500 total troops, or 25 elements (eg, 25 companies)? I couldn't imagine it means 25 divisions or corps... I've had some odd experiences with defending forts (I've ...

Major Exploit / Bug Found

I've found a very significant exploit / bug in the game and I'm wondering if there's a more private way to communicate with the developers? This bug could compromise the integrity of all games, most notably PBEM, if I share it publicly. An email address for a developer would suffice.

Thanks!

The simplest solution might be a soft-cap: Number of armies (Y) without financial penalty = X + 2, where X is the year in the war. If Y > X +2, then Y-2 * $2,000 is the upkeep costs per month of keeping additional armies. So in 1861 (where X = 0), you can have 2 armies and pay no upkeep costs. In 18...

Improved Battle Plan AI Suggestions

Still being new to the game (though an avid AACW-I player), I'm still picking up on the nuances of the battle planner. However, most of the AI suggestions on which plan to choose in battle have really seemed to let me down. My last one was the icing on the cake - I was defending Manassas with nearly...

Live Multiplayer game support?

I was an avid, and seriously addicted, ACW I player and am planning on purchasing ACW II as soon as I get my new computer (in fact, it's the main impetus for buying a new computer). I never got into playing any games via PBEM, so I'm curious if there is any "live" 1v1 multiplayer functionality in AC...
