Re: FoG:Empires vs Imperator:Rome

What bothers me is that you can , for example, magically change a druidic Gaul to a hellenic Roman, just like that. Really? Why not use a mechanism where there is a gradual culture change. And although the Romans had a tendency to send of 10 000 Romans to form a colony in the early Days ( i Think t...

Re: FoG:Empires vs Imperator:Rome

Yeh, I read that post by Johann too. He's just digging himself a deeper hole with his arrogance. Paradox got caught with their pants down this time. Their strategy of releasing an empty shell and then filling it with $300 of dlc is now very transparent to all their fans. Imperator has now hit the dr...

Re: Field of Glory: Empires Dev Diary #9 Battle System

A unit is in supply if there is sufficient food production in the region it occupies, otherwise it can draw supply from an adjacent region. Navies are in supply as long as they are adjacent to a friendly coastal region. It is a straightforward supply system but it seems to work well at this scale. A...

Re: Tactical Battles?

Empires has its own very robust tactical battle system that manages to be streamlined while offering the player interesting choices. I thought I would be exporting to FOG a lot but I like the tactical battle system in Empires so much that I use it 99% of the time. Compared to the battle system in pa...

Re: FoG:Empires vs Imperator:Rome

Paradox became complacent with Imperator. It really offers nothing new in the way of mechanics or unique concepts. Empires shines in that it introduces some unique ways of modelling, for example, decadence and the rise and fall of kingdoms and empires. The level of historical detail and authenticity...

Re: FoG:Empires vs Imperator:Rome

Empires is very moddable, both on data and on gameplay code an AI even. You can start small by adding new units and factions, then you can continue by adding events and then if you are willing, you can even edit or add gameplay code. Which programming language did you use Pocus? C++? Also, will the...

Re: FoG:Empires vs Imperator:Rome

Yes. The devs have assured us that Empires will be moddable. That's a great business model they have over there at Paradox: release a half finished game and hope that modders will fix it for you. Like you say there will be a lot expansions and pay for DLC for Imperator... just to get the game where ...

Re: FoG:Empires vs Imperator:Rome

I just finished ten hours with Imperator and I have gone back to playing Empires (beta tester). Paradox have missed the mark with this one. Imperator lacks the in-depth intrigue and skull-duggery of CKII and doesn't have the depth of EU4. It feels strangely flat. Empires is a much better game in alm...

I forgot to add that the maximum number of players is now 16. Sorry you missed the beta. Hopefully ageod will announce a release date in the not-too-distant future. It is definitely worth waiting for.

Re: The two Reasons I will buy This Game

Currently playing two multi-player games as a beta tester and I can report that the mp experience is very rich and rewarding. The WEGO system is superior to any other system out there. It is very easy to set up. Once you set the number of days for each turn and everyone is signed up the game automat...

Re: I am excited about resolving crucial battles in Field of Glory 2

I also come from a table top wargaming background. Initially I thought that I would be exporting major battles to FOG2 but the in-game tactical battle system has really grown on me. Battles can be resolved quickly, yet there is a surprising amount of detail which requires careful planning: terrain, ...

Re: Battle system: FOG2 or AGEod?

This game truly is a work of genius Pocus. The concept of balancing culture and decadence, along with the different government types is unique among strategy games that I have played. It works both in terms of historical authenticity and as a very intriguing game mechanic. I notice that all of the g...

Thank you, ajarnlance! Cool! The work of combat mechanics becomes clearer! Can't wait for this release! [/quote] You're welcome. I should also mention that sieges are also modeled well in the game. Re: Battle system: FOG2 or AGEod?

You don't get a detailed 'battle summary screen' like in ageod's previous games. The detailed info happens as each individual combat plays out... giving you all the details on how the scores are calculated and the hits are allocated. You can choose to move quickly through these or watch each combat ...

Re: Duration of one turn ?

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, I think it is the ability of the WEGO system to model meeting engagements and other unexpected events that makes it the most realistic game mechanic for me. After all, it's not like they had GPS back then :) I am a big fan of FOG so I'm really excited about the pro...

Re: Duration of one turn ?

Quote "You're not thinking of how to bring the Pontics to battle with Sulla in terrain that hurts them and works in your favour." But Pocus confirmed that terrain does matter. The battles in FOG2 will reflect the terrain on the strategic map, as will the battles in the game itself. So army...

Re: Field of Glory: Empires Dev Diary #6 Culture and Decadence

Re: Field of Glory: Empires Dev Diary #5 Governments and Rulers

That's great. It looks like the new ageod engine will be much more mod friendly. Is there a mechanic in the game that could lead to civil wars in a nation? I'm thinking particularly of the late Roman Republic civil wars, for example, between Caesar and Pompey?
