Remember though you will get a lot of volunteer and early game units by events during the early game. Your new unit construction will supplement this.

They will continue to train at their individual rates.

Like the last two posters said. You will know where you started building them. You will get a message when supply wagons and ships appear. Most other units you not get a message when the unit appears on the map but you will get a message when they "complete training" or "almost completed training". ...

Whenever this depresses me to much I always just go to the Shilo scenario and move Thomas over near Grant. If you disband his Corps (Corps not Division) and then immediately reform it watch his stats go way up.

If you play with easy supply off and no supply advantage to the AI you should see the frequency or at least the duration of deep raids decrease.

Shorter duration will limit the penetration of deep raids. I never play with easy supply on.
