Re: Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition (factories)

You're right Nik, I've got a screwy installation. I just started a new game as a test and I was able to build a factory on the first August turn of 1914. That explains a lot and actually makes me feel a whole let better about some other strange things that have been happening. Two things I have to d...

Re: Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition (factories)

Well that would certainly explain some of the issues I've been turning up - and it would mean that I owe the publishers an apology. I'll purge my installation, reinstall and post the result.

Re: Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition (factories)

The only reading I could do was the manual and there's no mention of a threshold date there. I discovered the Jan. 1915 date by testing.

Re: Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition (factories)

Just like Martians the threshold does exist - 1915 rolls around and up they go. Unlike Martians, nobody bothered to tell us about it. Just plain shoddy.

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition (factories)

Is there some kind of threshold date governing the building of these? It's December 1914 and I'm trying to interest Messrs Krupp et al in building some but they steadfastly refuse. I have the money, the war supplies, and the engagement points but I keep being told that I can't pay for them. Should I...

Re: Eastern Entente - Manageable as a Novice?

Not sure that you have to be highly successful to keep Lenin at bay - I think it's more a case of avoiding being unsuccessful. The earlier revolution thresh-hold together with the greater revolution possibility once you get there obviously place you at greater risk. But to get back on an even playin...

Re: Eastern Entente - Manageable as a Novice?

I think you're right on the money, Don. The task facing a stand-alone Russian player is daunting indeed. As you suggest, one way of dealing with it as a newbie is to crank the AI settings down as far as they can go. The problem with this, however, is that you end up playing a game that misrepresents...

Re: Three Men in a Tub

And @ Epa, the man who has been beating me like a drum is Stauffenberg; I think it would be well worth your time to drop him a PM. That's very worrying. I've committed to a game against him and if he's smart enough to make the U-boats work in EAW I don't fancy my chances. Sorry for clouding your th...

Re: War Plan conflict?

Damn good question. Just tested it and on the basis of a single run, if Germany goes with Schlieffen and France with Plan XX , Belgium begins August allied to the Central Powers. Perhaps further testing might prove that it's random, but right now I'm concentrating very hard on not letting the Russia...

Re: Bought, paid for, and stuck in the fleshpots

Given the number of times I've played this game and the fact that this is the first time it's shown up, I figure it needs a very unusual conjunction of factors to trigger it. So we'll push it to the side of the road and drive right on by.

Re: Bought, paid for, and stuck in the fleshpots

That was my first thought, pants, but no. I'd put move orders on some individual leaders and if they'd been combined with Tirpitz those would have been cancelled. Instead the movement tracks remained in place, the units remained individually represented, but both those nominated to move and those th...

Re: Bought, paid for, and stuck in the fleshpots

Nothing I'd seen before either - it happened after I'd plotted moves for some of them, saved and closed the game. On restart there it was. I can fix it easily enough by going into the text, but the fact that it happened in the first place indicates that there's something wrong somewhere.

I do mean that they're fixed after appointment.
Tooltip says 486 days.
There are twelve of them (6 German and 6 AH) and they include luminaries such as Leopold von Bayern, Eduard von Below, and Rudolf von Osterreich.

Bought, paid for, and stuck in the fleshpots

I have a cabal of generals (two in fact) purchased under the "Appoint generals" decision who appear to find the lush life of Berlin and Vienna far preferable to accommodation at the front. Over the two months since their call-up they have remained diagonally barred and stubbornly inactive....

Re: Region Production & Structures

Agree entirely - one of the things I like most about AGEOD games is their reluctance to "dress up" just for the sake of it. It's also why I'm so frustrated with this particular game's inclusion of all manner of elements that are nowhere explained - but by now that's an old story.

Re: Region Production & Structures

You'd have to reckon that the additional structures provide additional benefits - otherwise their inclusion would be for colour only and that would seem to buck the trend for AGEOD designs. But the number of views without response is a fair indicator that nobody really knows.

Re: Locked units and MTSG

Ahh - in that case I'm afraid I don't have much to offer. If we're to believe the description in the tool-tip it seems obvious that since it's not attacked itself the locked unit wouldn't be released. I can't recall any instance to the contrary so I'd go with you on that point.

Re: Locked units and MTSG

I think it probably does. If you put together all the bits and pieces I've just churned through, and if by "neighbours" you mean friendly units in the same region, the answer is "no" - you're not correct. Provided that the system selects them into the combat, using a method which...

Re: Locked units and MTSG

Okay, this has gotten way too opaque. As noted above all the German units starting in Breslau are identified as being inside the fort. The fort is attacked/assaulted - can't tell which order was in play. But the only unit shown to be defending in the battle graphic is the fortress! That would fit yo...

Re: Locked units and MTSG

That's an excellent point. The city was attacked but whether that involved an assault isn't clear. I'll go back and try to identify the actual position of each unit in Breslau at setup. Nothing had moved in since then but it's possible that all the others were in the city rather than the fort so I'l...

Re: Locked units and MTSG

As I recall the tool-tip says that they remain locked for the specified period unless attacked, so it would follow that they can't assist neighbouring units while still locked. But there's then the issue of what constitutes an attack. I'm close to certain that I encountered an occasion when a perman...

Re: Question about munition wagons

I don't think so. It's much like building units - when you elect to build a munitions plant you're presented with a screen that permits you to nominate the province in which you'll build it.

Re: Question about munition wagons

From a little play testing I've just done it appears that munitions units will replenish at rate of around 6% per day when lodged in a supplied city with the required stored munitions. I wouldn't be surprised if this varied with city size, between cities and depots, and with province conditions.

Re: Question about munition wagons

A list of the factors affecting ammunition (and general) supply distribution can be found on p.64 of the manual but there's no mention there of how it's allocated among competing demands. It would certainly be nice to know but so far nobody's telling.

Re: Hindenburg hindered

Yep, a very gentlemanly arrangement and all that's required to avoid frustration and aggravation. Of course in order to come to that arrangement it's first necessary to know that it's required, and the fact that there's nothing in the manual to indicate this is extremely frustrating and aggravating.

Re: Hindenburg hindered

Arrow has just pointed me to a 2015 post by BBBD316 indicating that Hindenburg doesn't get the call-up if Russia doesn't invade Germany - presumably fairly early in the time line.

Much appreciated the assist and, what a surprise, hugely critical of the lack of documentation in the manual.

Hindenburg hindered

January 1915 in a one-on-one game as Germany and Hindenburg is notably absent. The Moltke replacement event fired as normal with Falkenhayn arriving on cue, but Prittwitz has stubbornly refused to surrender his command. Any ideas as to the cause?
