Re: Okay, I surrender

Sorry Nik, but this has me completely defeated. I believe I've followed your instructions to the letter, indeed the installation path I used for the new setup is exactly that you give as your example. But still there's no reference to the Quickfix in the startup screen. It shows the "1.04 (Beta...

Re: Okay, I surrender

You think it's a mess - you should see it from my end! But thanks to the help I'm getting it's starting to unmess. Okay, so now it's just a matter of going back, deleting the quickfix files from wherever they've ended up, reinstalling them in my To End All Wars folder (which is what I thought I'd do...

Re: Okay, I surrender

Thanks once more Nik, I think I've got it. The game now shows as 1.04 and it looked like the Quickfix took okay. Just to lock it all down, however, can you confirm that that there shouldn't be any reference to the Quickfix in the startup screen (i.e. the game will continue to show as 1.04 etc. witho...

Re: Okay, I surrender

Thanks for the suggestion X, worth a try. Okay, working forward from the first occurrence of this - or part thereof - on p.34 I found no joy at all as far as patches 1.01 and 1.02 go. But, hallelujah, on p.14 I found a post from Pocus which advises that patch 1.03 is available and (yippy) mentions t...

Okay, I surrender

Much as I could love this game, I could also end up going completely spare and assaulting random strangers out of pent up rage. But it's not the game itself that's enraging me, it's the difficulty in sorting out difficulties with the game. Because of the manner in which I'd botched my existing insta...

Re: Where Oh Where is 1.04?

I'm afraid this installation discipline is just too much for a bear of little brain to cope with. Could I walk you through my process so that you might identify what I'm doing wrong? Hoping that the answer is "yes", this is how I roll. PC > Documents > My Games > To End All Wars > EAW This...

Re: Where Oh Where is 1.04?

Thanks Nik. I only have the one EAW folder these days so I'm going to have to figure out where and how I'm misdirecting the installation. Trial and error - or error and trial in my case. I'm sure it must be good for my. character.

Re: Where Oh Where is 1.04?

Follow-up question however. I've extracted the 1.04 and Quickfix into the EAW folder of my installation and run both. When firing up the game, though, it identifies itself as the 1.03 version - what have I done wrong or not done at all?

Where Oh Where is 1.04?

After installing and reinstalling an obscenely stupid number of times I've finally woken up to the fact that the Quickfix 1.04 can only be installed over the original 1.04. e.g. (with thanks to Edward75) Installed game Patch 1.03 Patch 1.04 QuickFix My problem now is that I can't locate the original...

Re: Newcomer to the game. Please help

Hi Pete and welcome aboard. On Point 1, I think you're half-way home but maybe falling at the final hurdle. Playing the CP I had the bright idea of shipping off a corps or so to stir things up in the Far East and encountered the same difficulty you describe. As you've noted, the redeployment option ...

Re: Invading Serbia

I find Serbia a really tough nut. Even with heavy artillery on hand it can take forever (well, it seems like forever when the Russkis are breathing down your neck) to crack Belgrade - and then the pursuit eastwards is no walk in the park either. My best results have come from tempting the Serbs in a...

Re: Replacement Pool

I forgot to say that cost of this CMN replacement pool is much higher than usual! Yes. What Allies do you mean? If Serbia, then they have their own pool of replacements. Serbia does have its own replacements, but these are quite limited (see Altaris' post re the kind of CMN replacements available)....

Re: Replacement Pool

It's been a while since I rolled out the game, Ed, but as I recall CMN is a contraction of "Common" and indicates that the replacement can be used for the major nation involved or any of its allies. I think the actual cost of a CMN replacement point is greater than that for a specific nati...

Re: How to transport land units by sea?

Thanks! But, I just want to transport British units from England to France, to a friendly port! What order do I need to give after departure of transport convoy? Same, "distant unload", correct? If that's all you're after I'm sorry to have overloaded you with extraneous detail, Ed. In pri...

Re: How to transport land units by sea?

Bargo's pretty much got it covered there, Ed. One point I'd emphasise is that when your transport fleets are depleted by damage or lack of supply their transport capacity will drop. So if you're getting frustrated trying to load a unit onto a fleet and it just won't work, that's probably why - hence...

Re: Known bugs list

The Mediterranean Blockade issue certainly isn't a game breaker, but for the anal retentives among us it can trigger a bit of a tanti. In my own case I take great care in shifting units and targeting recruitments in the five or so turns leading up to the OE DoW so that I can pull maximum advantage f...

Re: Known bugs list

I think it's entirely reasonable to demand fixes for a game that can't function satisfactorily without them, and the fact that they haven't come in the several years since it's release only makes that demand more reasonable. I'm not looking to beat up on AGEOD here - I'm actually an AGEOD fan. I bec...

Re: Known bugs list

All true enough, but cold comfort at the consumer end. So, given the difficulties in finding new permanent staff, would it not be possible to hire on temps to work up specific fixes for specific games? Here in EAW land, for example, Bohemond is being pressured (even if ever so politely) to provide f...

Re: Conquering Africa as the CP

I'm with you Barg. It's not the sort of thing you'd dare try against another player, but it adds a challenge that in a small way compensates for your game advantages over the machine. When playing without Schlieffen I've found it possible to ship four divisions into the theatre before UK entry witho...

Re: Star missing - Objective or not?

Just dropping in to link to your earlier "Known bugs list" post. The 1.04 Beta does eliminate a bunch of the bugs present in the 1.03.1 version. Although it warns of possible instability problems I've not encountered those to any great degree.

Re: Known bugs list

Unfortunately we've not heard back from Altaris so I think we have to figure that that that door's closed for the immediate future at least. Clearly you still care about the game, though, Templar, or you wouldn't be here - so I think we agree that despite its troubles there's enormous unrealised pot...

I've seen a variation on that. OE at 100% at end of turn, come next turn no DoW and alignment reduced to 99%. Would seem to confirm your analysis, pants.

Phew - that was a journey. I'd removed the Run Game icon when I raised its Quick Start brother, but was able to backtrack and locate it. Just as you said, there's all the stuff you pointed to. I don't think I have a future in the modding business, but one's reach should exceed one's grasp - or so I'...

Re: Playing with the big boys

I'm afraid I'm going to make a nuisance of myself, Nik, so please shut me down if this gets tiresome. When I visit my EAW downloaded location I can't find any sign of "\EAW\GameData\Models". I see only three folders - Logs, Saves, and Scripts - and none of these offer any reference to Game...
