Re: Can Some Generals Not Be Promoted Beyond A Certain Rank?

That would definitely add another dimension to play but, Lordy, the amount of research you'd have to put in to get a passable historical base for it would be monumental. If anyone's up for it I'd be keen to lend a hand.

Re: Can Some Generals Not Be Promoted Beyond A Certain Rank?

Damn good question! I don't have anything definitive to offer but I can say that I've seen some highly credentialed CP commanders left languishing as two-star generals despite participation in several major battles, only to gain promotion through some later undistinguished encounter. On that basis I...

Re: Height of Ambition

I'm a Moltke defender so I go with the argument that the Western Folly wasn't Moltke's plan but an adaptation of Schlieffen's incomplete "study" forced upon him by the military establishment's reverence for the great man. Moltke instead proposed a defensive posture in the West with the maj...

Height of Ambition

Nit-picker that I am, I'm looking to modify the event producing Moltke's retirement so that it fires only if a West Front deployment is selected in Turn 1 - that is, anything other than the "Moltke Plan". Ignoramus that I am, I can't even find the scripts governing this event. Any pointers...

Re: Depot construction

@epaminondas, thanks. It is wrong in the manual where it says 2 supply wagons suffice. Happy to help, but unfortunately that's not the only issue on which the manual is wrong/incomplete. To their great credit, though, there are a number of 'foundation' players available here who have more than once...

Re: Building British armies

Never played the Poms so I'm just vamping here, but you could try fixing your potential army commander to a single division and sending the combination to, say, Dover, creating your army command there and then shipping the new army back to where it can be brought up to strength.

Re: Depot construction

I think it's the number of supply units you're committing. As I recall, the manual says that you need 8 supply points to build a depot and that each supply unit is worth 4 points. But a later unit change reduced their supply value to 2 so that you actually need four supply units to provide the neces...

Re: Zeppelintransport, Airplanetransport And Armytransport.....

Hi Michael, welcome to the boards. As far as I know, and it's not a lot, aircraft units were in fact transported mainly by train. That was because it was not only the aircraft that needed to be re-located but also the support elements needed to put them into the air. The forward field bases still re...

Love's labours lost

Can anyone direct me to a downloadable copy of the 1.03 patch, please. I've had to reconstruct my TEAW (among other less important things like banking arrangements) after an over-exuberant display of Zeus' thunderbolts, and in rebuilding it up to 1.04 standard I need to include the 1.03 step. Unfort...

Re: Step into Your Place.

It appears I'm more of a mug than I thought. I've just played a turn in which Romania did kick in some cannon fodder. Only 18 points but it's something - and something I didn't pick up when I scanned a saved game for my earlier response. Bulgaria should arrive in three or four turns so I'll attend c...

Re: Left-click mouse to drag map???!!!!! WTH?

Let's face it, EAW is an unfinished game. So if you're looking for reasons not to play it there are plenty of candidates much more qualified for the task than a graphic inconvenience. For whatever reasons, it was pushed out into the market before it had been adequately tested and refined so there ar...

Re: Left-click mouse to drag map???!!!!! WTH?

Nope, sorry Bull, I've misread your problem. If you're looking to scan the map rather than set a movement destination things do get a tad wobbly. When moving a unit the map will faithfully follow the path you trace with the left button depressed. Not so, however, if you're simply looking to scan the...

Re: Left-click mouse to drag map???!!!!! WTH?

Being almost totally ignorant of things computonic, Bull, I'm going out on a limb to suggest that it this might be connected to your mouse settings - if there are such things. I've played for years now and I do very occasionally find my pointer heading north in defiance of all efforts to restrain it...

Re: Question about command structure

I normally play the CP and I'd suggest that the only thing you need do to neutralise the German fleet is to rotate a load of your big bangers in or around the German Bight. If the unit stats do give any advantage to the German BB and BC for superior protection it's not sufficient to show up in Jutla...

Worthwhile noting, too, that once activated by the GHQ the dog is off the leash and distance doesn't appear to be a continuing issue.

If one were gifted with supreme authority over everything in one's nation (or alliance) that moved by foot, hoof, wheel (including the paddle variety), track (continuous or rail), and air or nautical screw, one might consider that he or she was well situated to plan military operations against an en...

Re: Possible bug? Related to war supplies.

I've encountered the same issue from time to time H and I'm afraid I have no explanation to offer. It would take a bevy of replacements to burn through 665 supplies, but in any case if this shows up immediately after processing any replacements you have "in stock" would already have been p...

Re: Step into Your Place.

I'm thinking Arrow is having a little fun with my handle. The historical (instead of this hysterical) Epaminondas led a Theban invasion of Messene then under Spartan rule. At that time Sparta was more broadly known as Laconia. When "liberated" somewhat later Messene became an effective cli...

I can confirm that there is a small manpower gift associated with minors joining the CP but it's never been significant enough for me to take notice of its quantum. It's a fabulous resource, Arrow. You almost literally have "written the book" on how to master this game. Heaps in here that I've skimmed across in the manual without ever appreciating its gameplay value - and heaps more outside the manual that had never occurred to me. There has to be a m...

It's difficult to comment authoritatively on the results you detail Colonel - the only PBEM I've played ended disastrously when my end of the exchange became corrupted. From that limited experience though, I'd already learned that playing against a partner pretty much invalidated almost everything I...

In the words of Mr Punch, "That's the way to do it!".

You should end up with the tag EAW 1.04 (Beta Patch 1.03 - May 2019). The labelling confused the hell out of me also but it was worth persevering because it delivered up a playable, if far from perfect, game.
