Vainglory of Nations is a pretty good title and I rather like it. Agreed! But if I had to propose an alternative, I would suggest "Blood and Iron" in honor of Bismark. The real title, of course, would be "Blut und Eisen", but that would only show up in mods or in the German market. But I'm sure som...

Reviews...

Hey GShock,

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I agree with you and I do think review time is a major factor as to why some complex wargames either don't get reviewed or receive lower scores than they should.

Does your mag review wargames or mainly mainstream titles?

- Erik

Congrats!

That's an outstanding review for a wargame like AACW in a mainstream mag like PC Gamer.

Diversity is a good thing...

Much as I also love AACW, I'm very glad to have it as well as FOF and the upcoming Gary Grigsby's War Between the States on my hard drive. Each is a very different gaming experience and all have excellent gameplay. I'm disappointed to see wargamers writing off a Grigsby design so quickly, before eve...

They (Matrix Games, HPS, etc..) will not change because they have a large following of suckers who will always buy second rate games. Most fanboys have no idea what else is out there in the gaming world. They are stuck blindly following one publisher. Que ER..... By all means, carry on. I think bas...

Gary Grigsby's Civil War Game

FYI, this one (Gary Grigsby's) is looking excellent so far in beta as well and I really think this is one heck of a year for ACW gaming. It's not the same as GGWAW despite being based on the same engine. Many differences to adapt it to the ACW period and a much smaller scale than the global GGWAW. I...

I've used Omega drivers on several ATI systems for years and generally found them to be better than the equivalent official ATI versions. I think moving to the Omegas is generally an upgrade for ATI users.

A quick note to the person who mentioned no tutorial: there's a Flash tutorial on the interface accessible through the FOF Game Menu. The full manual is included in the game download and installed with the game. You can find a link to it in the Game Menu as well as in the program folder. I do agree ...

True, though it was mainly for the division issue that I wanted to restart (plus the Patterson issue). I'd actualy been beating the Rebs in Virginia silly, just wasn't feeling like I had figured out some of the production and organization issues as I should have. I just tried a new campaign and the ...

Well, they showed up on the map (about six division HQs plus an army HQ sitting in Washington, DC) but last I checked it said it would take something like 150 days for them to be fully operational. They have the red-bordered names still despite being there for IIRC three turns now. Very slow cohesio...

Ray,

I tried building some extra division HQs early too, but it tells me it will take a WHILE for them to be ready. Is there some way of speeding that up that you found or did you just make use of them "as is"?

Personally, in the July scenario I disassemble just about everything and build a Corps under Hunter. I leave the one weak division in the Army with McDowell. This seems to give enough command points to have everything under control with no penalties and you get the Army - Corps bonus on the next tur...

One more question...

In the McClellan event, it talks about him being promoted due to the defeat at Bull Run. It might be better to make this a bit less definite. In my case, I won First Bull Run with McDowell and won something akin to Second Bull Run again with McDowell a month or so later (hey, he actually has experie...

Question about Patterson

I created a division with Patterson in my first try at the July scenario by adding him into one of the two that he starts with. When the event came up that Hancock decided not to retain him, not only Patterson disappeared but also the division that was with him disappeared as well. Is this intention...
