Does fort benefit defenders outside city?

Having read and re-read the manual, I know that placing defenders INSIDE a city is counter-productive. So, I leave 1-3 divisions entrenched outside the city walls.

But - does a fort inside a city provide any benefit to the defenders entrenched outside the city?

Industrialization - for or against?

Is industrialization worth it? I did an experiment with NY - light industrialization for 3 months. Their output after 3 months: Supply Wagons increased 5%, Ammo Crates increased 10%, $$$ dropped a tiny amount, Conscript Companies decreased 10%, and War Supplies increased 15%. But this cost me $34,00...

Chasing my own tail - and a CSA div in KY/OH

New to the game and still learning, I am continually frustrated by loose elements/divisions/etc. that I am simply unable to chase down, catch and smash. For example, I use gunboats/ironclads to "block" the rivers of northern TN, from Cairo to Nashville. But, eventually, a CSA division will creep int...

Build time for riverine ships?

New to the game, I am planning on blocking CSA moves into KY by using river gunboats to blockade the necessary rivers, from Cairo to Nashville. But ... I am 4 gunboats short. So, how long is the build time for the various ships? I know it won't be 1 turn, but I'm hoping its not 6 months or more. Tha...

Burn, Atlanta, burn!

Okay, I see the "Destroy Depot" and "Destroy Rail" orders. But how do I burn Atlanta? (or any city) I realize the value of taking and holding strategic/objective cities (for Victory points), but what if I want to burn/pillage cities and then keep moving - as Sherman did to Jackson, Mississippi (duri...

Garrison - how big, which units, etc.

New to AACW, I am still climbing the steep learning curve .. and I'm loving every minute of it. When I take an Objective city and want to keep it, what sort of garrison force should I put in it? I know that I should entrench a force outside the city walls, and I plan on doing that - but I want to pl...
